INSIDE JOB, documentary film review

Tonight I went to see an advanced screening of INSIDE JOB, co-hosted by the Center for Latin American Studies and the Center for Responsible Business. I REALLY enjoyed this documentary about the economic crisis of 2008/financial meltdown directed by one of my favorite documentary filmmakers Charles Ferguson, who also did No End In Sight about the Iraq War. In my opinion (and limited financial understanding), this was a very thorough and smart film that did not take sides with either political party. Hated on both democrats and republicans. I especially enjoyed all the hissing from the older folks in the audience when something particularly scandalous was said…or when Reagan made a brief appearance haha.

A must see for everyone, but ESPECIALLY for anyone interested in a career in finance, investment banking or auditing. Hopefully our generation won’t make the same greedy mistakes that those in the “past” did (although most are still working under the Obama Administration) - although I’m not so hopeful. The film also questioned the potential conflict of interest between the economics departments of many top-tier schools (UC Berkeley included!) and these financial giants. About halfway through, the film discussed the lifestyle of these executives - including prostitutes and cocaine. I don’t want to give everything away, but if you’re like me and have some limited knowledge of what’s been going on in regard to the global economic crisis but don’t really get it… you HAVE to see this film. If you liked Ferguson’s last documentary, you’ll probably like this one even more! I did.

Watch it!
